NPLs are recognized as an obstacle to further economic prosperity of Serbia, which is why the government of the Republic of Serbia has established a Working group to study this issue in Serbian environment. As part of this initiative, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has requested a study, that was financed by the Government of the Grand-Duchy of Luxemburg, with an aim of identify existing obstacles to the sale of NPLs from financial, accounting, legal, taxation standpoints and to propose changes to the current regulations, if needed.
