Tax

Competitive and responsive Tax policy is essential for any business and any economy - developed or emerging. As never before Tax is firmly on the political and business agenda as many countries compete for corporate investment and Tax revenues. The rapid internationalization and increasing sophistication of business means a career in Tax at KPMG can be an exciting, fast-moving and intellectually demanding experience.

"In a complex, changing global economy, we aim to develop our people to lead, and to provide the fresh perspectives, technical capabilities and assurance that our member firms' clients and the communities in which we operate expect and deserve."

HMRC case study

Time was our number one challenge on this project. We had to deliver our report in time for the 2006 budget - an extremely tight timescale taking into account the scale and complexity of the project.

Global Restructuring Project case study

This business wanted to rationalize its global investment holding structure. Our job was to analyse the various possible holding structures to achieve this global objective, identifying a structure for each region that would not trigger adverse Tax consequences, either in Luxembourg, the region in question or in the U.K..

Our role is to help member firms' clients understand how their business decisions can be affected by Tax legislation — both local and across borders; to be clear about the Tax they should pay; and to comply with often detailed and changing reporting obligations. To do this well requires intellectual curiosity, technical capability and the ability to digest, analyze and explain complex issues.

It also requires absolute integrity because, across KPMG's global network, we see it as our role to help Taxpayers and Tax authorities better understand each other, and to help countries develop fair and effective Tax systems. So not only do our member firms want to attract the best people to be leaders in Tax — we want them to use their knowledge responsibly.

We seek to develop our knowledge advantage in many ways:

  • KPMG's Global Tax practice of 18,000 people around the world collectively develop information and experience greater than any single client or Tax system.
  • We organize local, global, specialist and industry-specific training and experience.
  • We strive to make the best use of technology internally and externally to share knowledge, to deal with huge amounts of data, to reach and implement our methodologies.
  • We work alongside our colleagues in Audit and Advisory to examine a problem or issue in the whole.
