Mike is the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of KPMG International, effective October 1, 2005. He was most recently Chief Executive of KPMG's Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMA) Region, a position he held since October 2002.
Mike was articled as an accountant in Birmingham, and joined Peat Marwick Mitchell, the predecessor to KPMG LLP in the U.K., 31 years ago. He rose to Deputy Senior Partner in Birmingham, and has held a number of senior national positions for the U.K. firm. These included U.K. Head of Manufacturing, Distribution & Retail (1997), KPMG in the U.K.'s first Head of Sales (1999), and Chairman of the U.K. firm's Client Service Board (2001). He is the lead partner for three of the U.K. firm's major clients.
Mike has been closely involved in work for a number of charities and public bodies. He is currently a board member of Business Action on Homelessness and joint chairman of both Project Compass - which aims to help homeless ex-services personnel return to full-time work - and ENGAGE, a global campaign to promote employee volunteering. He was for a number of years chairman of Fit for the Future, the national best practice campaign for business led by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and backed by the Department of Transport and Industry (DTI).
Mike's family home is in Worcestershire, U.K., and he is married with six children. His interests lie in horse racing, skiing, sailing and scuba diving. A former amateur jockey, he rides horses regularly and still takes part occasionally in charity flat races.
